In a shocking incident, a Buddhist monk was shot with a T56 rifle at a temple in Malwathuhiripitiya, Gampaha District, according to the police.
The motive behind the attack and the identity of the assailant are yet to be determined.
This comes a day after five people were killed in a shootout in Tangalle.
