In a surprising turn of events, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament for the Badulla District, Chaminda Wijesiri, submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of Parliament during the first parliamentary sitting of 2024, which commenced at 09:30 a.m. today.

Wijesiri said he was in Parliament for 08 years and did his best to serve the public in the District. "There is a major frustration about parliamentarians in Parliament. Even my children are being cursed simply because I am an MP. I have to rethink whether I should continue in politics," Wijesiri added. 

Wijesiri also added he had been subjected to various acts of injustice in Parliament. Wijesiri said he was resigning in Parliament for the sake of his children. He also added the current Parliament had no mandate.
