Sri Lanka witnessed substantial increases in both worker remittances and tourism revenue during the month of December 2023.
According to official data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the country received a remarkable $569.7 million from worker remittances and earned $269.3 million from tourism activities.
Worker remittances recorded a robust year-on-year growth of 19.7%, showcasing the resilience and dedication of Sri Lankan expatriates working abroad.
Simultaneously, Sri Lanka experienced an extraordinary surge in income from tourism, with revenues reaching $269.3 million in December 2023. This remarkable growth, amounting to a staggering 111.4% year-on-year increase, signifies a significant rebound for the country's tourism sector, which has faced challenges in recent years.
