The National People’s Power (NPP) has expressed indifference to the decision of former Minister GL Peiris and other rebel Government MPs, including Nalaka Godahewa and Channa Jayasumana, to throw their support behind the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

The group's nonchalant stance was emphasized by NPP member Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who likened the situation to the collection of "garbage" in one place, suggesting that it will be easier to sweep it away at the polls.

Former Viyathmaga heavyweight Nalaka Godahewa, along with Channa Jayasumana and a few others, announced their support for the SJB, signaling a significant shift in political allegiances. Additionally, SLFP MP Shan Wijayalal de Silva also recently joined the ranks of the SJB.

In response, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa of the NPP downplayed the impact of these political realignments, stating, "All the garbage is now being collected into one place, and at the polls, it will be easy to sweep away all the garbage at once."
