Power and Energy Minister, Kanchana Wijesekera, has issued clear directives to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) management, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards disruptions and violations of guidelines by employees. Minister Wijesekera has instructed the CEB management to suspend and take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee found disrupting services or acting against issued guidelines.
Minister Wijesekera emphasized the importance of maintaining a seamless and uninterrupted power supply for citizens and businesses, underscoring that any disruptions or violations will be met with swift and decisive action.
Simultaneously, proposed reforms for the CEB are set to undergo parliamentary scrutiny. Minister Wijesekera revealed that the comprehensive reforms, aimed at improving the CEB's operations and service delivery, will be presented to the Parliament with amendments for approval. The reforms are expected to address structural and operational aspects to ensure a more resilient and effective energy sector.
Additionally, the CEB will be submitting a proposal for a reduction in electricity tariffs to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) next week. The proposal aims to provide relief to consumers by reducing the financial burden of electricity expenses.
