Motorists in Sri Lanka are in for a financial jolt as the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) announces significant revisions to fuel prices, effective from 5 am today. The revised rates reflect substantial increases in several fuel categories, marking a notable shift in the cost of essential commodities.
The revised prices are as follows:
- Petrol Octane 92: Increased by Rs. 20 per litre to reach Rs. 366.
- Octane 95: Experiencing a steep hike of Rs. 38, the new price is Rs. 464 per litre.
- Auto Diesel: A Rs. 29 increase brings the price to Rs. 358 per litre.
- Super Diesel: The cost surges by Rs. 41, reaching Rs. 475 per litre.
- Kerosene: In a rare reduction, the price drops by Rs. 11 to stand at Rs. 236 per litre.
The surge in fuel prices is mainly attributed to increase in VAT, as announced in November.
