The Gampaha Hospital is grappling with the aftermath of a COVID-19-related fatality, as a 65-year-old woman passed away after reportedly contracting the virus. Initially admitted for respiratory issues, the woman's health took a turn for the worse, leading to her transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she ultimately succumbed to her condition.
According to a spokesperson for the hospital, the tragic incident unfolded as the woman's deteriorating respiratory health prompted the decision to move her to the ICU. It was during this critical juncture that the results of a prior Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test revealed that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
The revelation added a layer of complexity to the medical situation, intensifying concerns about the potential spread of the virus within the healthcare facility. Further investigation disclosed that a relative of the deceased, who had been admitted alongside her at the Gampaha Hospital, had also contracted the COVID-19 virus.
