The Sri Lankan Police Headquarters has announced the resumption of "Operation Yukthiya" across the entire island, renewing efforts to combat drugs, apprehend drug traffickers, and dismantle criminal gangs. The operation, which had been temporarily restricted for the past 24 days, is set to resume today, as law enforcement aims to strengthen its focus on maintaining public safety.
The temporary halt in the operation took place as police was tasked with ensuring security during the festive season. With the conclusion of the holiday period, police have decided to reinstate the operation "Yukthiya".
The Police Headquarters emphasized that the limited operation will continue as before, with a dedicated force of officers actively pursuing leads and conducting targeted raids to curb illegal activities. The operation, according to the Police HQ, has proven to be a crucial tool in the fight against drug-related crimes and the suppression of criminal organizations operating within the country.
Since the initiation of Operation Justice, law enforcement has carried out over 13,600 suspects apprehended thus far.
