Member of Parliament Prof. G.L. Peiris has declared plans to forge a robust opposition alliance alongside the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) in the future. Prof. Peiris, a prominent figure in the Freedom People's Congress, led by former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, expressed his commitment to building a collaborative force that extends beyond party lines.
Speaking to reporters in Kandy after a meeting with the Chief Prelate of the Getambe Rajopanaramaya, Ven. Keppitiyagoda Sirivimala Thero, Prof. Peiris emphasized the need for a united opposition to counter prevailing challenges. He stated, "We are working towards building a broad opposition force, and discussions with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya are underway. It is essential to consolidate our efforts for the greater benefit of the country."
The seasoned politician, who previously served as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), highlighted his commitment to safeguarding the public against what he termed as 'extremely dangerous' economic policies. Prof. Peiris expressed concerns over potential adverse impacts on the citizens and asserted the importance of a vigilant opposition to ensure responsible governance.
