The Sri Lankan Cabinet has granted approval for a significant solar power initiative, endorsing the Power Purchase Agreement with the United Solar Group of Australia.

The agreement entails an investment of USD 1,727 million in a groundbreaking 700 MW Solar Power Project. The proposed project is slated to be situated on the Poonakary Tank's surface in the Killinochchi District.

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative in advancing sustainable and renewable energy sources. The investment underscores Sri Lanka's commitment to harnessing solar energy to meet its growing power demands while contributing to global environmental goals.
