In a fresh move towards fostering reconciliation in Sri Lanka, President Ranil Wickremesinghe engaged in a rare discussion with representatives of the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) in Colombo. The GTF, once banned due to alleged links with the LTTE, presented a comprehensive plan for reconciliation during the meeting, which also included the participation of a group of Buddhist monks.

The meeting, held in a spirit of open dialogue, saw the President sitting down with GTF spokesman Suren Surendiran and a delegation of Buddhist monks. The diverse group aimed to address longstanding issues and work towards a harmonious coexistence in the nation.

One of the significant outcomes of the discussion was the presentation of the "Joint Himalayan Declaration" by the GTF and the monks. The declaration outlines a strategic roadmap for achieving reconciliation, fostering unity, and addressing the grievances of various communities in Sri Lanka. The President expressed his appreciation for the collaborative effort and pledged to carefully consider the proposals put forth.

Suren Surendiran, speaking to the media after the meeting, emphasized the importance of engaging all stakeholders in the reconciliation process. He highlighted that the GTF had also met with Chief Prelates in Kandy, underlining the commitment to inclusivity and garnering support from diverse segments of the population.
