A Police spokesperson yesterday told media that a few national level cricket cricketers were among 'regular visitors' of the famous brothel house in Colpetty which was raised by Police two days ago.
In the recent past there was a serious controversy surrounding discipline of certain young players representing the national cricket team.
Police also said it did not intend to take the matter any further as it did not come under their purview.
However, they added that if authorities wanted to conduct a probe on the matter the police would provide the authorities with necessary information.
Commenting on the matter a senior cricket official said it was not always practical to monitor ‘off the field’ behaviour of national level players. “It is their duty to look after themselves and act in appropriate manner. That will make them good ambassadors of the game. Everything cannot be monitored by authorities”, he added.
The Police Anti-Corruption Unit of the Walana Police Station in Panadura yesterday (16) raided the brothel which was run in secrecy on the third floor of a famous hotel in Colpetty.
Nine Thai prostitutes who appeared as masseurs and a few foreign clients were arrested at the brothel which was run in the guise of a herbal spa centre.
