A recent study found that Parliament uses about 1,200 kilos of paper a day.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the printing of Hansard in Parliament costs close to Rs. 10 million a day.
Thirty-seven 40-foot trees have to be cut down to produce the paper that Parliament spends on a day, the study revealed.
The Ministry of Environment yesterday launched a special program to create a paperless parliament.
Commenting on the program, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that books were piled up on the tables of MPs without no one making use of them.
He also pointed out that this is a huge waste of money as well as environmental pollution.
