The Cabinet has failed to reach a final decision on seeking financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to overcome the current foreign exchange crisis.
The Cabinet met yesterday under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was overseas.
Several ministers have called for a loan from the International Monetary Fund as a solution to the dollar deficit, while others have said they will have to agree to conditions if they go to the International Monetary Fund.
Therefore, it is more important to seek the support of friendly countries without going to the International Monetary Fund, the ministers pointed out.
However, it is learned that no final decision has been taken on whether to go to the International Monetary Fund or not.
