The Consumer Affairs Authority says it will file lawsuits against two gas companies, Litro and Laugh, in the next few days for damages caused by the gas explosion.
A senior official of the Consumer Affairs Authority has told a Sinhala newspaper that the Legal Division of the Authority is currently in the process of filing a case and will seek advice from the Attorney General in this regard.
The official said that both the gas companies had not taken care of the components connected to the gas cylinders or their maintenance, adding that it appeared that the respective companies had neglected their responsibilities accordingly.
He further said that in many of these cases, the equipment connected to the gas cylinder had been damaged and it is being investigated whether the gas companies are responsible for it.
The report of the expert committee appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa under the chairmanship of Prof. Shantha Walpola of the University of Moratuwa to inquire into gas related accidents is due to be handed over to the President this week
