Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today (July 7) called on all Members of Parliament to attend the sittings and assist in appointing the relevant committee to look into the past week's unruly incidents in and out of Parliament.

The Speaker made this statement at the beginning of the Budget Debate earlier today.

The committee will be appointed by senior members of the ruling party and the opposition to look into the incidents in parliament, he said.

Abeywardena further stated that it has not been possible to contact some members to be appointed to this committee and that the committee will be appointed tomorrow after discussions with them.
