Gazette of April 26 banning importation of chemical fertilisers revoked: private sector will now be allowed to import chemical fertilisers, weedicides and pesticides, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.
The Minister said that this step was taken as a government sensitive to the people.
Accordingly, the importation of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides will be allowed to the private sector and there will be no change in the government's policy on green agriculture, the Minister said.
He was addressing a media briefing at the Government Information Department.
This development, however, came two days after President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa stated that the government would not sanction chemical fertliser and the current policy will continue.
