Former parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, who was admitted to the Welikada Prison Hospital to be treated for a medical condition, had a mobile phone in his possession, prison authorities said.
He was transferred from Angunakolapelessa Prison to Welikada Prison Hospital, Colombo on November 10 to be admitted to the Orthopedic Clinic of the Colombo National Hospital for treatment of a knee injury on medical advice.
During a search of the prison hospital at around 10 last night (21), officers seized a mobile phone and a hand free from his possession.
Ramanayakeis to be charged and produced before a three-member prison tribunal.
