The Police Media Spokesman said legal action would be initiated against those who organised the SJB protest yesterday in violation of health regulations.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwas said the protest was organised defying the guidelines issued by the Health Services Director-General.

"The police are taking steps to take further action against those who organized the event,' Thalduwa told the media.

In many parts of the country, the police prevented protestors from joining the rally in Colombo and turned their buses away.

The permission obtained by the party to conduct the rally at Hyde Park, Colombo, was also revoked.

However, the party proceeded with the rally and conducted a public gathering on the main road, near Galle Face.
