The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today (8) that Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando would not be arrested at this point
This was informed to the Supreme Court by Additional Solicitor General Rohantha Abeysuriya on behalf of the Attorney General.
This development took place when the Fundamental Rights petition filed by the committee member Dr. Cyril Gamini Fernando was considered today (08) before a panel of judges comprising Vijith Malalgoda, Preethi Padman Surasena and L.T.B Dehideniya.
Additional Solicitor General Rohan Abeysuriya said that the Director of the CID had informed the Attorney General in writing that Fr. Fernando would not be arrested until the investigation into the incident was completed.
The bench also directed the Attorney General to inform the petitioner in advance if the CID wants to record a statement.
In his petition, Fr. Fernnado said there was a move by the CID to arrest him over a complaint lodged by SIS Chief Suresh Sallay.
