The President's proposal to appoint former Governor of the North PSM Charles as a member of the Election Commission has been approved by the Parliamentary Council.

She also served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine and the Director General of Customs.

Charles was recently removed from the post of Governor of the North and Jeevan Theagarajah, a member of the Election Commission, was appointed by the President in her place.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake the Parliamentary Council has approved the appointment of Sundaram Arumainayaham, a member of the Election Commission, as a member of the Public Service Commission.

He places V. Sivagnanasothy, a former member of the PSC who recently passed away.
