Former President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the Catholics in Sri Lanka should be given justice by punishing the terrorists who carried out the attack on Easter Sunday in 2019.
The former president said that the most tragic event in his political career was the Easter attack and that he was deeply saddened by it.
Sirisena made these remarks while responding to questions raised by journalists after an event conducted by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Polonnaruwa District Women and Youth Federation.
The former President said that the issue of the Easter attack was a very complex one and should be discussed at length, adding that he could not comment further on the issue as there were about 20 cases pending in the Supreme Court.
The former president said it was his position that justice should be done to all, including those killed and injured.
The former president said it was his government that took measures to pay compensation to victims and renovate churches.
