Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thera and Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith have filed FR petitions before the Supreme Court against the transfer of Yugadanavi LNG Power Plant shares to a US company.

The petitioners sought the Supreme Court intervention to scrap the agreement to hand over 40% of the Yugadanavi power plant to an American company and to implement the agreement under a proper tender procedure after a formal study.

The agreement has also come under severe criticism from a number of affiliated parties of the government.

The President, however, has rejected their request for a seperate meeting to discuss the content of the agreement.
