Man Posing To Be TID Officer Extorts Money From Relatives Of "Easter Sunday Suspects" Promising Release From Custody

A man has been arrested for extorting money from relatives of three suspects, including Nawfar Moulavi, who is believed to be the mastermind of the Easter Sunday terror attack.

The suspect is Gonaduwage Don Saman Buddhika, 42, a resident of Gepalamulgola, Uhumiya.

The man was arrested in Galgamuwa by the Terrorism Investigation Division on October 14.

Moulavi, who has been remanded in custody in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attack, is believed to be Saharan Hashim's theorist.

It has been revealed that the suspect had taken money from Nawfar Moulavi's wife, her husband and Mohammed Ibrahim Abdullah on several occasions while posing as a police inspector in the Anti-Terrorism Investigation Division, saying that the suspect would be released.The amount obtained was Rs. 1,810,000.

The suspect had also obtained Rs. 318,000 from a relative of Fatima Rikaza, who had been arrested by the CID and was being held on remand.

He has also demanded Rs. 1.5 million from a relative of Mohammad Siyam Mohammad Shimshad, who was arrested and detained on suspicion of involvement in the Easter attacks.
