Minister of State Prof. Channa Jayasumana says that the Committee appointed to look into the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has proposed a number of structural changes to the institution.
The Minister of State said that the information was revealed by the interim report submitted by the five-member committee appointed to look into the activities of the Drug Regulatory Authority.
A committee was appointed to look into the activities of the Authority during the period from June 1, 2015 to March 17, 2015.
A five-member committee comprising retired High Court Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena was appointed and the interim report of the committee was handed over to the Minister of State recently.
"The interim reports says that various frauds and corruptions have taken place in that institution. We are currently studying the report and we will take necessary legal action in the future. We will also amend the National Drug Regulatory Authority Act expeditiously," Jayasumana added.
