A large number of government and opposition representatives participated in the all party conference held at the Narahenpita Abhayaramaya this afternoon (6) organized by the National Coalition Against Teacher-College Salary Anomalies to demand the elimination of teacher-school salary anomalies.
Representatives of the ruling party and the opposition who attended the conference expressed their support for the teachers' struggle.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera, MPs Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Athuraliya Rathana Thera, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, former JHU Provincial Councilor Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe and Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake were present at the discussion.
The discussion was also attended by a large number of delegates representing 13 teacher unions involved in the National Coalition Against Teacher-College Salary Anomalies.
Representatives of the teachers' union said that they had repeatedly requested the government to address the grievances confronting teacher and the principals without delay and to implement the 'Subodhani' report.
