Sri Lankan ayurveda company Siddhalepa has come under fire on social media for promoting corporal punishment on teacher' day.

On Teacher's Day, which was yesterday, the company posted a picture of a cane on social media, with the text 'Some Pain Was Worth Undergoing'.

In the caption, Siddhalepa said, 'It was the cane that put us on the right path in life. Today is a good day to remember that teacher who used that cane.'

Enraged users posted on social media saying this was where the fault in Sri Lankan society lay, not with politicians.

Many talked about painful experiences in their childhood in which their experience with corporal and other forms of violence affected them into their adult life.

Siddhalepa had later taken down the post, but no public apology or explanation has yet been made.
