President Schedules Special Cabinet Meeting Tomorrow To Make Several "Tough Decisions" On Price Hikes

A special Cabinet meeting will be held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat tomorrow (07) at 5 pm.

According to government sources, the special cabinet meeting has been scheduled to discuss the current political and economic situation in the country and to make a final decision on the proposals to increase the prices of cement, milk powder and gas.

The Cabinet Secretary had informed the Cabinet last night (05) that a special Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow under the patronage of the President.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was held last night on Zoom technology but the President did not attend.

Informed government sources said that several "tough decisions" would be made at tomorrow's cabinet meeting. The proposal made by the Consumer Affairs Authority to increase the prices of cement, milk powder and gas was presented to the Cabinet by the Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena last week, but it was not discussed at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.
