SJB Considering Disciplinary Action Against MP Chaminda Wijesiri For Criticising Sajith Premadasa At Press Conference

Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara the party was considering disciplinary action against Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri who recently criticised Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa at a press conference.

Wijesiri said if Premadasa attempted to ensure his survival by only highlighting the mistakes of the government without promoting an alternative path, he would become a joke to the public.

When asked about this, Madduma Bandara said Wijesiri should not have made such comments.

"I will question him about these remarks. Those are internal matters of the party. If there was such a concern, it should have been discussed within the party. It is not appropriate to discuss these matters at press conferences," the General Secretary added. "the opposition's duty is to criticise the government and highlight their mistakes. We can't go 'shopping' for the government. Our policies will be unveiled during election periods in manifestos. As a party, however, we have a basic framework," he further said.

"He is a capable young MP. But, he shouldn't have made these remarks," Madduma Bandara said.

Political observers stated that Wijesiri's statement indicated the growing frustration within the SJB parliamentary group over the leadership of Opposition Leader Premadasa.
