Police Department Publicly Apologises To Media Over CID's Move To Grill Journalists On "Garlic Fraud" Investigation

September 30, 2021

The Police Headquarters expressed its regret over the summoning of a group of senior journalists to the CID for statements.

A special statement issued by the Police today (30) claimed that this was in accordance with the normal procedure of the CID.

The statement further stated that journalists are not normally summoned to the CID as they are often assisted by the media in relation to investigations.

The statement added that an investigation has been launched by the IGP into the irresponsible and negligent conduct of the officers of the CID.

A team of officers from the CID visited the Lankadeepa office at Hunupitiya Cross Road, earlier this week to question the Editor-in-Chief of Lankadeepa and its correspondents regarding the statements made by the former Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Thushan Gunawardena.
