Controller General of Imports and Exports Damayanthi Karunaratne says that permission has been granted to import white sugar from today (30).

She said that facilities have been provided to open Letters of Credit for this purpose.

The import of sugar was banned for three months.

Meanwhile, retired Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Chairman of the Lanka Sathosa, has informed the importers that 81 containers of sugar currently in the custody of the Colombo Port should be released from the port within 10 days from tomorrow (01).
