SLFP General Secretary State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera's controversial statement on the "motherboard" of the mobile phone used by Zaharan Hashim has sent ripples across the ruling camp, informed political sources said.
It came in the wake of the Catholic religious leaders, including Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, launched a number of measures to exert pressure on the government to reveal the masterminds of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Jayasekara has said that the mastermind of the Easter attack could be revealed if the people who ordered the motherboard of Saharan's mobile phone to be taken to a foreign intelligence service were revealed.
"There is an attempt to arrest former President Maithripala Sirisena and intelligence officers in this regard. They are trying to attack him politically, on this issue," Jayasekera added.
He said that no one was talking about who had taken the motherboard of Zaharan's phone and that a court order had been issued to take it to another country despite the opposition from the Sri Lankan police authorities.
The Minister of State said that the telephone containing all the information about the attack had been taken by an intelligence service in a country and that if the politicians who ordered it were traced, those involved could be traced.
Jayasekara made these remarks while speaking to the media after inspecting a blood donation camp held in Kurunegala on the 28th to mark the 70th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
