The government is likely to delay the Local Government election by a year considering the current issues faced by the country.
The Local Government Council election is due in February next year. However, the government is confronted by a surfeit of economic issues as a result of the pandemic.
It is against this backdrop that the political authorities of the government are considering the postponement of the election by a year, a source familiar with the matter said.
"Under the powers vested with the subject Minister, the LG polls can be delayed up to a year," a highly-placed government source said.
The government has already decided to postpone the Provincial Council election indefinitely due to the current situation.
Informed sources added that the PC election would be held after the Local Government election.
