SLPP MP Jagath Kumara said the public should be prepared to sacrifice one meal a day in order to save the country from the economic crisis.
"Everyone should make sacrifices. It's a tough time for all," Kumara said, addressing a press conference in Colombo.
"As MPs, we too sacrifice our salaries. We are confident that the government can ride the country out of the current situation," he added.
Meanwhile, Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the government would take measures to supply undergarments to the public through Sathosa, at subsidised prices.
Gunawardena was responding to remarks that the restrictions on importing undergarments would lead to a shortage and a massive price increase in the market.
He assured that there would be no such shortage and Sathosa would provide undergarments to the public.
The Minister added that the local manufactures were in a position to meet the demand in the local market.
