Ministerial Sub-committee Appointed To Look Into Salary Issues Faced By Teachers & Principals Recommends "Fair Solution"

The Ministerial Sub-committee appointed to look into the salary anomalies faced by teachers and principals has recommended to the government should take steps to provide a fair solution to them.

The Committee also recommended that the solutions to their issues be announced in the Budget and implemented in stages, taking into account the impact on the overall economy due to the epidemic situation in the country.

The committee also suggested that the services of teachers, principals, teacher advisors and education administrators should be integrated into a "closed service."

As a first step, the committee has recommended to the government that the provisions for making the teacher-principal service a closed service be published in a Gazette notification before November 20.

The report of the subcommittee was presented to the Cabinet last Monday and will be discussed next week.

Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma, Wimal Weerawansa, Prasanna Ranatunga and Mahinda Amaraweera were members of the subcommittee.
