An urgent party leaders meeting is currently underway, under the auspices of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, to discuss the future parliamentary proceedings.

A number of Parliamentarians and parliamentary staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Many party leaders have pointed out that convening parliament under the current circumstances would pose a health risk to MPs.

A final decision on this matter would be made at the party leaders meeting.
