Govt. Takes A Step Back On Controversial KDU Act: Cabinet Spokesman Says President Agreed To Consider Amendments

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had agreed to introduce amendments to the controversial KDU Act.

Pathirana said the matter was widley discussed at the parliamentary group meeting of the ruling party.

The government's move to pass the KDU Act in Parliament has sparked a wave of protests across the country.

Pathirana said the current dialogue on the KDU Act was productive and meaningful and the government would facilitate all views.

The Act was first presented during the previous government although the main opposition has now taken a different stance on the matter.
