UK Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire, in a Twitter question and answer session on Sri Lanka, said the UK was closely monitoring the situation in the North and very concerned at reports of intimidation and harassment in the province.
Commenting on the content of the draft resolution which is in circulation among member nations of the UNHRC, Swire said resolution is a result of negotiations. Current resolution text has impact and calls for international inquiry.
"We believe the resolution will promote long-term reconciliation and improve human rights for all groups," Swire sai adding that the UK government is very clear that inquiry must address allegations of human rights abuses by ALL sides during conflict
Commenting on the UK aid to Sri Lanka, the Foreign Office Minister said the UK already supports Sri Lanka's development. "PM announced further £2.1M for de-mining project last year, alongside other projects," Swire said.
