SJB MP Kumara Welgama said he would work with former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to strengthen his new party 'Api Sri Lanka' from July 05 onwards.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, Welgama said he represented the Samagi Jana Balawegaya as a member of a constituent party and would work to strengthen his own movement with the support of the former President. Welgama represents the SJB as the leader of the 'New Sri Lanka Freedom Party'.
"We have been having many discussions on Zoom. We will have more engagements when the country opens up later this month," Welgama said.
He added that the new party would be a good platform for all SLFPers whose aspirations have been betrayed by the current leaders of the party.
"Many former MPs, patriotic forces and leftist parties will join hands with us," he said.
This comes in the backdrop of speculations made by some in the opposition that Welgama is projecting himself as a potential common candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
