Civil rights activist Asela Sampath has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Sampath's family yesterday said a group of 20 persons clad in civilian clothes came to the activist's house and abducted him. The famiy said the group identified themselves as "police officers".
Later, the police officially announced that the activist has been arrested by the CID.
Meanwhile, the opposition has raised serious concerns about the incident. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa tweeted that his party would provide legal support to the activist who is currently in custody.
