A police complaint has been lodged against former Chief Epidemiologist Sudath Samaraweera and senior staff members of the unit over "flawed statistics" on COVID19.

The complaint has been lodged by Aruna Laksiri Fernnado, a lawyer.

Pesident Gotabhaya Rajapaksa recently said the COVID19 statistics given to him by authorities were errorneous. In the complaint, the lawyer has requested the police to take action against those responsble for the flawed statistics.

Dr. Samaraweera has been transferred out to a different department and Dr. Samitha Ginige has been appointed the Head of the Epidemiology Unit.
