'Thor' - A LION and a ZEBRA foal at the Dehiwala Zoo have contracted COVID19.

Meanwhile, a zebra foal and hippopotamus have died within the last two weeks and that authorities who suspect COVID19 are conducting tests.

It is still not clear how the animals at the Dehiwala zoo contracted the virus as the venue remained closed for many weeks. However, workers at the zoo continued to report to work during travel restrictions.

This is the first time animals with COVID19 have been detected in Sri Lanka.
