UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said 70 new Local Government Councilors would take oaths before former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on June 22.

They would replace the LG members who supported the Samagi Jana Balawegaya led by Sajith Premadasa. The names of the new appointees would be gazzetted soon.

Several Local Government heads have already been removed by the party for the same reason.

The petition filed by SJB LG members was dismissed by the Supreme Court last week enabling the UNP to take action against them.
