Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the government would not import SUVs for MPs and there was no controversy surrounding the matter.
"The remark Minister Keheliya Rambukwella made during a TV discusssion was a genuine mistake. When the issue of opening of LCs for these vehicles came up before the Cabinet, we decided not to proceed with it," Aluthgamage said during a TV programme last night.
"The LCs have already been opened to import other vehicles - but not the vehicles for MPs," he added.
"There is no controversy over the matter now. We will not impport vehicles for MPs. That's final," Aluthgamage added.
