Six persons, including singer Madhavi Wathsala, have been arrested by police for attending Chandimal Jayasinghe's birthday party in Colombo, which was held in violation of lockdown regulations.

Wathsala is the daughter of veteran artiste Jackson Anthony. She is considered a close friend of a powerful politician in the government.

Many parties involved in the controversy claimed that the police had not taken action against Wathsala due to her close links with this influential politician.

The six people who were arrested today will be produced before a Magistrate.

The police said 21 persons had been arrested thus far over the controversial birthday party hosted by beautician Chandimal Jayasinghe during the lockdown.
