Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe advised both the government and the opposition to work together to salvage Sri Lanka from the pandemic.
Issuing a statement, Wickremesinghe said committees and task forces appointed to handle the country's pandemic response have failed to deliver results.
He asked the President and the Cabinet of Ministers to use their powers and work effectively to ensure the safety of the public.
Wickremesinghe also asked them to work with the leaders of the opposition parties representing Parliament and consult their views on the way forward.
The former Prime Minister said this was not the time to seek political mileage and everyone must work together to save the country from the raging pandemic.
