Will Maithripala Sirisena Be Arrested Over Easter Sunday Attacks? His Counsel Says No Evidence To Arrest Former President

Former President Maithripala Sirisena cannot be arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, the former President's lawyer Maithri Gunaratne told Asian Mirror.

Gunaratne pointed out that there was not enough evidence to file a case against the former President regarding the Easter Sunday attack or the security lapses leading to the event.

Maithri Gunaratne made this revelation in response to an inquiry made by Asian Mirror regarding the speculation that the former President is likely to be arrested on the charge of not taking action to prevent the Easter attacks.

Gunaratne pointed out that the Special Presidential Commission appointed to look into the Easter attack was an information-gathering commission and not a commission with legal powers.

Maithri Gunaratne acted as Sirisena's Counsel when the former President testified before the Special Presidential Commission appointed to look into the Easter Sunday attacks.
