Ranjan Ramanayake's MP Seat Vacated - Parliament Secretary General Informs EC: Mannapperuma To Take Oaths

The Secretary General of Parliament has informed the Elections Commission that the parliamentary seat of Ranjan Ramanayake has been vacated.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, making this announcement in Parliament, stated that Ramanayake could no longer hold his position as an MP.

This follows the conviction of Ramanayake for contempt of court by the Supreme Court. His attempt at securing his seat through a court intervention failed yesterday.

Accordingly, Ajith Mannapperuma is expected to take oaths as a Parliamentarian soon.
