Samagi Jana Balaweagaya seniors have proposed former Minister Ajith P. Perera's name as the party's Chief Ministerial candidate for the Western province at the upcoming Provincial Council election.
Perera, one of the strongest allies of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, failed to secure his parliamentary seat at the last Parliamentary election by a narrow margin.
SJB seniors have pointed out that the party should field a senior political figure such as Ajith P. Perera as the Chief Ministerial candidate to attract support at the upcoming PC election.
Perera was recently apppointed the "Chief Executive" of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and is strongly involved with the ongoing membership drive of the party.
However, its is learnt that Perera is yet to give his consent to the proposal. Sources close to Perera state that the former Minister has not made a final decision on the matter thus far.
"He is ready to consider the proposal if it comes as a unanimous request from the party. But he will not push for anything. The decision lies with the party and the former Minister is willing to give his best to the betterment of the SJB," a source familiar with the matter said.
