Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella today (11) has directed the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Jagath Wickremasinghe, and the board of directors to resign immediately.
It has now been revealed that the Minister has made this announcement due to several allegations including the leasing of a land owned by the Corporation in the Radella area in Nuwara Eliya to a private entrepreneur without permission and the alleged transfer of frequencies owned by the Corporation to another party without following the due process.
Wickremasinghe, a popular singer and a strong supporter of the SLPP, was appointed to the position soon after President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was appointed the President.
